Quick answer: what does Odoo ERP cost in Canada and the US?

Odoo pricing has two separate parts: the software subscription and the work required to implement it. The subscription is usually charged per internal user. Implementation covers discovery, configuration, data preparation, migration, testing, training, integrations and go-live support.

For a growing business in Canada or the United States, implementation is often the largest Year 1 cost. A smaller project using mostly standard Odoo functions may require a limited, phased budget. A multi-company, manufacturing, construction or integration-heavy rollout can cost substantially more because it requires more process design, data work, testing and change management.

The useful budgeting question is therefore not only "What does Odoo cost per user?" It is "What will it cost to move our actual workflows and data into a system our team can operate reliably?"

Odoo Enterprise licensing

Odoo Enterprise is sold as a subscription per internal user, per month. Odoo publishes two paid plans, Standard and Custom, and prices each market in its own currency.

Official Odoo subscription prices in the United States (USD)

Four details change the licensing line more than the headline price.

• Who counts as a user. Odoo defines a paying user as someone with access to the Odoo backend to create, view or edit documents, or an employee record that has no linked user. Everyone in that group is counted, even if they only use Odoo to submit expenses or timesheets.
• Portal users are free. Customers and suppliers who use the portal to see their own documents are not paying users.
• Light Users cost less. Some limited employee roles may qualify for Odoo's lower-priced Light User category. Eligibility depends on the permissions and functions assigned to each role. Confirm the classification with Odoo before budgeting. Odoo lists the Light User at CAD 12.90 in Canada and USD 8.90 in the United States.
• Some needs force the Custom plan. Odoo 19's documentation states that enabling multi-company on Standard triggers a move to Custom, and that external API access is available only on Custom. Studio and custom code are also Custom features.

Implementation services

Implementation is the work of turning the software into your system: discovery, process design, configuration, data loading, testing, training and support at go-live. It is priced by a partner, not by Odoo, and it is normally the largest Year 1 line.

NGYN's public rate is CAD 110 per hour in Canada and USD 75 per hour in the United States, the same for functional, technical and project work. The current figures are on our fee table.

We do not estimate a project by multiplying modules by a fixed number of hours. Two companies can install the same apps and need very different effort. What moves the hours:

• Workflow complexity, and how far your process is from standard Odoo.
• Number of companies or legal entities.
• Data condition and how much history you migrate.
• Accounting requirements, such as taxes, currencies and consolidation.
• Inventory and manufacturing complexity.
• Integrations and custom development.
• Reporting requirements.
• User roles and permissions.
• Testing effort, training needs and the cutover method.
• The support you want after go-live.

Data cleanup and migration

Migration is rarely a single import. It is cleanup, mapping, test loads, corrections and reconciliation, usually run more than once before the real cutover.

Cost depends on how clean the source data is, how many systems it comes from, and how much history you bring. Master data and opening balances are the base case. Each extra year of transaction history adds mapping and reconciliation work. Ask whether a quote includes cleanup, or only the import.

Hosting and infrastructure

The three hosting options are not interchangeable.

Integrations

An integration connects Odoo to a system you are keeping, such as an e-commerce store, a payroll provider, a shipping carrier or a production machine. The cost is in the design, not the connector: which system owns each record, how often data moves, and what happens when a record fails.

Because external API access requires the Custom plan, an integration can raise the licensing line as well as the services line. Ask for monitoring and error handling to be in scope, not just the happy path.

Customization

Customization is anything standard configuration cannot do. It ranges from a field added in Odoo Studio to a custom module. Both require the Custom plan.

The purchase price of a customization is only part of its cost. Custom code has to be tested, supported and carried through each Odoo version upgrade. We recommend running standard Odoo in a pilot first, and customizing only the gaps that remain.

Training and ongoing support

Training is usually included in implementation hours. Support after go-live is a separate, recurring line.

NGYN offers support by the hour or as a bi-weekly plan. As published on our fee table, a plan of 5 hours every two weeks is CAD 460 in Canada or USD 325 in the United States, and larger plans have lower effective rates. Odoo's subscription also includes Odoo's own functional support and version upgrades for standard features. Maintenance of custom code is not included.

Standard, configuration-first rollout

• Scope: One legal entity, about 10 internal users
• Operational areas: Accounting, Sales, Purchase, CRM
• Discovery and gap analysis: Short workshops to confirm the standard process fits
• Master data: Customers, vendors, products, chart of accounts, opening balances
• Configuration: Standard settings, document layouts, taxes, user roles
• Integrations: None in the first phase
• Customization: None. Configuration only

• Scope: One or two entities, office and shop-floor or warehouse users
• Operational areas: The core apps, plus Inventory, and Manufacturing or multi-step warehousing
• Discovery and gap analysis: Detailed mapping of receiving, storage, picking, production and costing
• Master data: Products, units of measure, bills of materials, routings, locations, opening stock
• Configuration: Warehouse routes, lot or serial tracking, costing method, work centres
• Integrations: Often one or two, such as shipping or e-commerce

Discovery inputs needed to calculate your range:

• Number of finished products, and the number of bill-of-materials levels.
• Routings, operations and work centres, and how each is timed and costed.
• Lot and serial tracking and traceability requirements.
• Warehouses and locations, and how stock moves between them.
• Costing method, and how work in progress is valued.
• Shop-floor data capture: tablets, barcodes or machine data.
• Quality checks required at receiving, in production or before shipping.
• Volume and condition of the bill-of-materials, product and opening-stock data.
• Integrations to shipping, e-commerce or other systems.
• Users by role: office, warehouse and shop floor.

How the range is built: discovery lists each workstream, for example receiving, storage, production, costing, reporting, data migration and training. Each gets an hours estimate and a stated assumption. Add the workstreams, multiply by the hourly rate on the fee table, then add a contingency for what discovery has not yet found. Ask any partner to show their range in that form.

What moves it: number of products and bill-of-materials levels, lot and serial tracking, multiple warehouses, quality steps and shop-floor data capture. Multi-company or integration-heavy rollout

A group with several legal entities, shared customers and vendors, or several systems to connect.

• Scope: Three to five related entities, about 25 internal users
• Operational areas: Finance across entities, sales, purchasing, projects or inventory, inter-company flows
• Discovery and gap analysis: Entity structure, shared and separate records, inter-company rules, reporting by entity and group
• Master data: One shared set of customers, vendors and products, with entity-specific accounting
• Configuration: Multi-company setup, inter-company transactions, access rules by entity
• Integrations: Several, each with a named owner for every record
• Customization: Scoped as separate change sets after the foundation is live
• Testing and pilot: Inter-company cycles and a group month-end close

What moves it: number of entities, how different their processes are, the number of integrations and the reporting the group needs. This scope requires the Custom plan. What increases or reduces Odoo implementation cost?

The two biggest levers are usually in your hands: how much history you migrate, and how many customizations you approve before anyone has used the standard system.

Odoo Community versus Enterprise cost

Odoo Community is the open-source edition. It has no license fee. It is not free to run: you still pay for hosting, implementation, maintenance, security patching and version upgrades, and for any Enterprise-only function you need to replace.

Odoo Enterprise is subscription-based. The fee adds further applications, Odoo's functional support and version upgrades for standard features. Odoo Online hosting is included with eligible Enterprise subscriptions. Odoo.sh is priced separately, while self-managed hosting carries infrastructure and administration costs.

Choose between them by what the system must do and who will run it, not by company size. Five questions decide it:

• Required functions. List the apps you need and check each against Odoo's editions comparison. Some, such as Studio, Quality, Field Service and Payroll, are Enterprise only. If a requirement depends on one of them, Community cannot meet it.
• Hosting. Odoo Online hosting is included with eligible Enterprise subscriptions. Odoo.sh is priced separately, while self-managed hosting carries infrastructure and administration costs. On Community you or your partner host the system and take on servers, backups, monitoring and security.
• Upgrades. Enterprise includes version upgrades by Odoo. On Community, each major upgrade is a project for you or your partner, including retesting any custom code.
• Internal technical capacity. Community needs someone, in house or contracted, who owns the servers, patches and upgrades. Without that, the saving can disappear.
• Total cost of ownership. Compare the Enterprise subscription with the full yearly cost of running Community: hosting, support, upgrades and any function you would have to replace. The subscription grows with internal users, so user count affects the comparison, but it is only one input.

A database runs one edition, so the choice applies to the whole system.

Questions to ask before accepting an Odoo quote

• Which Odoo plan and billing term is the quote based on, and why?
• How many internal, light and portal users does it assume?
• Which legal entities, apps and workflows are in scope, and which are excluded?
• Is data cleanup included, or only the import? How much history?
• Is each integration listed, with who owns each record and how errors are handled?
• Which customizations are included, and who maintains them through upgrades?
• How many rounds of testing and what training are included?
• What does go-live support cover, and for how long?
• What is the hosting assumption, and is Odoo.sh or infrastructure cost included?
• How are changes in scope priced and approved?
• What is the support rate after go-live?

A quote that cannot answer these is a price for an unknown scope. If you are comparing partners, make sure each is quoting the same assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Odoo cost per user?

On yearly billing, Odoo Standard is CAD 35.20 in Canada and USD 24.90 in the United States per user per month, and Odoo Custom is CAD 57.90 and USD 49.00. Those are introductory prices, valid for 12 months for the initial users. Regular yearly prices are CAD 44.00 and USD 31.10 for Standard, and CAD 73.00 and USD 61.00 for Custom. What is the difference between Odoo Standard and Custom?

Both include all apps. Custom adds multi-company, Odoo Studio, agentic AI, the external API, and the option to host on Odoo.sh or on-premise. Standard is hosted on Odoo Online only.

Is Odoo implementation more expensive than the license?

In Year 1, usually yes. In the worksheet above, implementation is several times the Year 1 licensing. From Year 2 the recurring cost is mainly licensing and whatever support you choose.

Do customers and suppliers need a paid Odoo user?

No. Odoo states that external users who use the portal are not paying users. Anyone with backend access, including an outside accountant, is a paying user.

Is Odoo Community really free?

The license is free. Hosting, implementation, maintenance and upgrades are not. Compare the subscription you avoid with what it costs to run the system yourself.

Does hosting cost extra?

Hosting on Odoo Online is included in the subscription. Odoo.sh is an extra fee, and self-managed hosting has its own infrastructure and upkeep costs. Both need the Custom plan.

How long does an Odoo implementation take?

It depends on scope and on how much time your own team can give. Larger scopes, such as multi-company and manufacturing projects, take longer and are often phased. We do not publish one duration, because it would be a guess. Ask for a schedule by phase, with the dates that depend on your team marked.

Can we reduce the cost by starting small?

Often. Start with the process that causes the most pain, adopt the standard workflow, and add apps and customizations once people are using the system. A first phase also gives you real data for sizing the next one.

Why do Odoo quotes from different partners vary so much?

Usually because they assume different scope. One may include data cleanup, testing rounds and training, and another may not. Line the quotes up against the questions above before comparing totals.
